Del Sol String Quartet has been making headlines for their exploration of the intersection of cultures and social topics in their inventive programming.
Founded in 1992 at the Banff Center for the Arts in Alberta, Canada and now centered in San Francisco the ensemble’s location allows them to excel in new music repertoire including world sounds from the Pacific Rim throughout the whole of Europe. They have commissioned and premiered over 100 works from international composers and often incorporate multi-media or dramatized performance into their shows.
Del Sol String Quartet has performed at the Kennedy Center, the Smithsonian Museum and the National Gallery of Art, Symphony Space and festivals in locations as far afield as Switzerland and China. They have won, twice, the Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming.
Within their music explorations, Del Sol String Quartet has released 8 full-length albums. Their recordings are found on Sono Luminus and New World Records.
Del Sol String Quartet is a strong supporter of educational initiatives and leads masterclasses, workshops, and performances for student musicians and composers.
