Archiphon was founded in 1987 by Werner Unger and is currently based in Kehl, Germany. The label’s heart and soul lies in releasing rare classical recordings from private archives and other sources, to collectors and the wider public.

Archiphon presents a collection of over 300 titles, including the world’s most comprehensive collection of Klemperer's music. The label was launched by the Verein für musikalische Archiv-Forschung, a non-profit organisation for musicologists and serious collectors.

A remarkable collection of rarities.

The label started out with releases of LP-recordings by Otto Klemperer, followed by their first CD in 1989 of Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis and Brahms’ Symphony No. 1. Since 1992 the collection has significantly expanded with previously un-released historical recordings by other artists as well, such as Hermann Scherchen, Carl Schuricht, Rudolph Kolisch and Dinu Lipatti. With interpretations of Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet, Haydn’s Seven Last Words of Christ, as well as works by Vivaldi, Beethoven, Brahms, Strauss, Chopin and many more. Moreover, as well as recordings of neglected or nearly forgotten interpreters of classical music Archiphon also offers rare recordings of cabaret music.
