Ondine

Ondine is a renowned classical music label founded in 1985 by Reijo Kiilunen, based in Helsinki, Finland. The label has released over 600 recordings throughout 30 years in high quality sound formats such as CD, Hybrid SACDs and DVD.

Overview

Founded in Helsinki in the year 1985,  Ondine’s releases are internationally distributed and are also available through digital download or streaming from several online outlets. Ondine has joined the international Naxos group as an independent unit within the organization. 

Ondine has established itself over the years as one of the most respected labels in classical music. They’ve received numerous prizes at the Cannes Classical Awards, the Gramophone Awards, the BBC Music Awards and the Classical Internet Awards. Ondine plays an important role in the strong development of Finland’s cultural visibility internationally. The label of origin ‘Made in Finland’ is today internationally recognized as a guarantee of remarkable quality and reliability. Ondine is proud to have shared the forging of this reputation.

Today Ondine's extensive catalogue includes nearly 600 recordings of artists and ensembles such as conductor and pianist Christoph Eschenbach, conductors Vladimir Ashkenazy, Vasily Petrenko, Mikhail Pletnev, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Hannu Lintu, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Sakari Oramo, Leif Segerstam and Hannu Lintu, orchestras such as The Philadelphia Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, London Sinfonietta, among others.

The label has also had a long and fruitful association with Finnish composers Einojuhani Rautavaara, Magnus Lindberg and Kaija Saariaho, having recorded the premieres of many of their works and garnering many awards along the way.

Repertoire

Ondine’s catalogue contains impressive interpretations of works by great composers such as Schumann, Bach, Shostakovich, Rachmaninov, Mahler, Prokofiev, Scriabin and of course the marvellous Finnish composers Magnus Lindberg, Kaija Saariaho and Einojuhani Rautavaara. The collection includes performances of prestigious widely known Finnish orchestras such as the Helsinki Philharmonic, Finnish Radio Symphony and Finnish artists including the renowned conductor Hannu Lintu and numerous chamber works by national and international ensembles and soloists.
